Walter Habdank’s paintings in oil, acrylic or mixed technique are thematically more independent and varied, in contrast to his woodcuts with their sharp-edged dramatics or the intoxicated nature of the water colors. He worked on biblical motives here as well but they seem to be more thoughtful and hesitant.
In the very concrete and present pictures which can be understood as timeless candid shots, flowers, portraits, women, artists and land-scapes seem to be interrupted in their movements. They are like capturing a single frame of a moving picture. The viewer’s attention is focused on the movement – and it is left to one’s own interpretation to imagine how the story will continue from these (often turning) points.
